Swisscom PR- Italian Competition Authority opens in-depth investigation

The Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato) announced on 11 September 2024, that it had opened an in-depth investigation (Phase II) to assess the acquisition of Vodafone Italia by Swisscom under Italy’s merger control rules.

Swisscom PR - Swisscom submits formal notification to the Italian Competition Authority

Following the announcement of the acquisition of Vodafone Italia on 15 March 2024, Swisscom informs that it formally notified the Italian Competition Authority (Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato) of the transaction on 12 August 2024. The notification occurs in the context of the work underway to secure the regulatory approvals needed to finalise the transaction.

Fastweb CEO Walter Renna has been appointed by Swisscom as the designated CEO of the Newco that will result from the merger of Fastweb and Vodafone Italia, which is expected to receive clearance by the first quarter of 2025. Renna’s final appointment is subject to the successful closing of the transaction.

Fastweb announces first half 2024 results: continued growth driven by focus on quality, innovation and infrastructure

In the first six months of the year customers (+4%), revenues (+7%) and margins (+5%) continue to grow thanks to the focus on innovation and the strong performance of the Enterprise and Wholesale segments, while mobile active customers growth continues in double digits (+11%). Subscriptions to the new energy service exceeded expectations.

Fastweb switches on NeXXt AI Factory, Italy's first NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD AI supercomputer, to pave the way for artificial intelligence in Italy

In addition, the initial release of MIIA, a national language model developed by Fastweb, is now available. Agreements have been signed with Mondadori Group, Istat and La Sapienza and Bicocca universities to expand the dataset for further phases of LLM training.
