Smart Cities

Thanks to the massive deployment of digital technologies, such as 5G together with Internet of Things and Big Data technologies, cities will become increasingly digitised, smart, connected and environmentally sustainable. The infrastructure of cities is increasingly interconnected. By analysing data collected by sensors located throughout the city, cities can improve traffic conditions, liveability of spaces, air quality and safety. Fastweb develops digital-based solutions to make cities smarter and more connected, ensuring a better quality of life for citizens and a lower environmental impact.

Intelligent traffic lights

Thanks to Fastweb's Internet network, a number of Italian cities have been able to implement an intelligent traffic management system which, by integrating the urban traffic light management system, makes it possible to regulate traffic and thus give priority to public transport, reducing travel times. The same solution can be adopted to facilitate the emergency or police vehicles right-of-way. The advantage for the environment is the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Smart Parking

Fastweb has developed a Smart Parking solution which, through the installation of sensors and cameras to monitor the occupancy of city parking spaces, allows traffic and emissions to be reduced and the process of finding a parking space to be optimised.

The mobility Big Data collected by monitoring the status of parking occupancy and mobility flows in real time, supports the administration in making traffic governance decisions. The advantage for the environment is the reduction of CO2 emissions.

IoT per Smart Infrastructure

Fastweb has developed a complete IoT solution based on passive fibre-optic sensors and a Cloud platform capable of monitoring the stability parameters of any type of infrastructure, including public buildings, schools, works of art, bridges, viaducts and tunnels. This solution allows the security of any infrastructure to be monitored, facilitating the planning of necessary upgrades and maintenance. In the case of an aqueduct, IOT makes it possible to detect water leaks, for example, enabling more efficient and sustainable management of drinking water.
