MENA Submarine Cable System chooses Fastweb to connect Asia and Africa to Europe

03/2015

Milan, March 11th, 2015 - MENA Submarine Cable System and Fastweb have signed an agreement whereby the Italian operator will implement a protected backhauling capacity connection along the entire Italian peninsula reaching the Caldera business park in Milan.

With such connectivity MENA-SCS will be able to carry traffic coming from Far East, India, GCC and Egypt on MENA cable to Milan neutral hub on diversified routes. The project will enable MENA-SCS, through the hub of Milan, to distribute traffic data to the main European Internet Exchanges, thus opening up a new path for the interconnection of communication networks between continents.

Since its foundation in 1999, Fastweb has focused on innovation and on the network infrastructure to provide the highest quality in delivering ultra-broadband services in Italy. Fastweb has developed its own 37,500 km long fiber optic network: a safe, reliable and easily scalable network.

The infrastructure developed for MENA spreads throughout the Italian peninsula and connects Mazara del Vallo (Sicily) to Milan, thanks to Fastweb fiber optic network laying for 1,300 km along the Tyrrhenian coast and 1,800 km along the Adriatic coast.

"We are happy to extend our network to reach one of the biggest hubs in Europe by which MENA-SCS is able to provide its customers direct connectivity to the continental of Europe." said Ahmed Khalaf, MENA Managing Director. "We Chose Fastweb because of its experience in the territory of Italy, and we believe that the cooperation between MENA-SCS and Fastweb will be, for sure, in favor of our customers.”

"We are very proud to have contributed with our experience to the implementation of this project" said Fabrizio Casati, Chief Wholesale Officer of Fastweb. "We worked closely with MENA - SCS during the feasibility and the design of the project in order to ensure its implementation in a very short time. We are so pleased to be a part, with the stretch made in Italy, of the high transmission capacity system that MENA - SCS is developing to meet the growing demand for ultra-broadband connections from companies outside Europe. ”
